Smartphone adoption to propel m-Commerce : Flipkart

One of the India's leading e-Commerce marketplaces Flipkart said that they are focusing on non-metros as Internet shopping is growing in such cities. Michael Adnani, VP - Retail and Head - Brand Alliances at Flipkart in an interaction with ETTelecom's Muntazir Abbas feels that m-Commerce segment would grow in tandem with surging mobile penetration. Excerpts.

What are the drivers of e-Commerce in India?
Today, customers don't want inconvenience for shopping. Buyers have an ability to compare products and read product reviews online. It gives lot of transparency to make intelligent decisions.

Our technology-driven capability allows us to deliver product efficiently and offer value.

How do you see mobile as a channel for e-Commerce business?

India is one of those markets which are witnessing phenomenal growth in a couple of areas such as Smartphone adoption and e-Commerce penetration.

Over a period of last 6 to 8 months, we have seen huge growth. Customers are actually shopping on mobile. They do comparisons and transact on mobile devices.

People are moving from feature phones to Smartphones that actually gives them ability to transact. The m-Commerce market would grow in tandem with surging mobile penetration.

How are you leveraging mobile apps to facilitate m-shopping?
India is a unique market. For those who don't have desktop PCs or laptops, they rely naturally on mobile devices to communicate and transact.

We are putting resources to facilitate m-shopping. Consumers are using app to shop. We have Flipkart.com app installed on Android-based devices as well as Windows phones.

As an e-Commerce services provider, what is your roadmap?
As an e-Commerce platform, we have the largest selection of quality of products and offers value to customers. E-Commerce is growing. Flipkart is growing. In fact, Flipkart is growing faster that e-Commerce growth in India.

Our growth is going to depend on how much we can offer to customers efficiently with affordable products. Growth is going to be exponential.
